A chromatic confocal sensor measures the position of the sample using a chromatic confocal                  optical configuration with a pinhole and a device for determining the wavelength of the light                  beam which has passed through the pinhole.
                 The single segment viewing system presents the unique property of perfect focus over all the                  chromatic extended field since at any given point of the axial field view there is only one                  wavelength perfectly focused, all the other wavelengths being absolutely inactive.
